Hi, thanks for visiting www.waddellgolf.com the official website of Charlie Waddell.
The purpose of this site is to keep you posted on how my pursuit of a PGA Tour card is coming along. A little about myself...
Growing up in Wilmette, IL, I was exposed to golf at a young age by my dad Rick Waddell, an avid golfer. My dad, brother Fred (25) and I would head out to the range at the Glen View Club and hit balls, chip and putt. To this day I think a lot of my development as a player can be traced back to the creativity learned at a young age.
I started playing junior golf tournaments at around the age 13, basically as a way of keeping up with my brother. The two of us would travel with my mom to tournaments all around Illinois, stay in many a Super 8, and have a great time. I would not say that I was a golf prodigy by any means, perhaps a function of the fact that I was 5' tall heading into my freshman year in high school.
I played on the golf team at Lake Forest Academy, playing for the famous high school golf coach Matt Vaughn. It was on the fairways of Deerpath Golf Club in Lake Forest that I really got bitten by the competitive golf bug and seriously thought about continuing my career in college.
From LFA, I went Bucknell University where I played for coach Jim Cotner. It was at Bucknell that my game really took off. I enjoyed much success at Bucknell, on a team and individual level. We were Patriot League champions two years and I was an individual champion two years in a row, the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
After graduating from Bucknell in May of 2007, I decided to continue my career as a professional. For the past year I have been playing on several mini tours with some success and played in my first PGA Tour sanctioned event this past May in the Bank of America Classic on the Nationwide Tour.
Thanks again for taking an interest in my progress and if all goes well, there will be many successes posted on www.waddellgolf.com
